Respectant hi guanyam tots

A program on traffic safety was started in the year 2000 by the Municipal Police of Palma (Policia Local), together with its own Police Academy. It was named "Respectant hi guanyam tots", i.e. "Respecting the rules we all win", and included tuition as an alternative feature to the penalties originated by contraventions to the traffic regulations. Drivers with a maximum of  two penalties in the precedent year, and provided that these are due to minor offences to the traffic regulations or to some of the offences considered as grave by the Municipal Decree on the matter, can have one of the specified offences cancelled by means of attending a two-hour lecture on traffic safety.

The general spirit of the program is ¿the reinforcement of a respectful attitude towards traffic regulations¿. Aiming to reach this purpose, the two-hour lecture is divided into two parts:

- An explanation on the need of traffic regulations and the reasons for a penalty as a result of infractions.

- An explanation on the responsibility of the Municipal Police (Policia Local) in traffic survey duties. The problems derived from the traffic of vehicles in our city are also analized in this part of the program, as well as statistics on accidents and a consideration on the need of a general change of the attitude towards respecting traffic regulations.

Basically, the aim of the program is a consideration on the need of observing the regulations in order to prevent traffic accidents.
